Sometimes in life you get the chance for a do-over. Do overs are good when you want to improve on some flub. Do overs are not good when you did it great the first time but someone else doesn’t like it and makes you do it over anyway.
Lucky me. I had the opportunity to do over, or at least improve upon, my disasterous vacation. My friend and I, in the company of a few others, took a Friday off, combined it with Saturday and hit the woods for some much needed rest and relaxation on a four-wheeler.
One word sums up the two days: hot!! (Yes, my friend is hot but I’m not talking about him.) The weather was bearable because of the breeze created by the four-wheelers flying down the dirt roads and mud splashing on my legs and arms. But a nearby creek topped the riding when it came to cooling off! I cannot remember the last time I was in a creek. I remember I was in a creek once or twice but it was so long ago I can’t remember when or where. Given my age, I am certain the memory will come back to me. In the middle of the night, in the middle of a good sleep!
We rode all day Friday and then a little bit that evening as well. We stopped to rest and chat or put in gas. Other than preparations to set up or pack up, we rode. We ate al fresco. We used bug spray and kept going. And I even enjoyed the pleasure of using a modern outhouse complete with a cold water shower. Showering by flashlight is interesting in the woods. I will leave off further description but the outhouse came with a resident fox squirrel and required insects.
We rose Saturday and did it again until we packed up to return home.
By the time we returned late Saturday, I was exhausted and refreshed. I felt a million times better than the Thursday before. And certainly better than I had on vacation.
